When something that has been labeled as dangerous happens, the amygdala releases hormones into the body to throw it into a “fight or flight” response. Darwin would approve of this theory; a trigger in our brain to tell us that something is dangerous puts us in a state of heightened awareness.

Phobias range in severity among individuals. Some people can simply avoid the subject of their fear and suffer relatively mild anxiety over that fear. Other people will have full blown panic attacks. Most people know that they are suffering from a fear that is irrational, but they unfortunately do not come equipped with the tools to override their initial panic reaction.

Therapeutic treatment will generally work to take the memory and reaction that was perceived as harmful and replace it with a more realistic scenario. That clown may make you feel uncomfortable, but he is hopefully not out to get you, you know.

Therapeutic approaches to treating phobias differ, and often different approaches will be taken concurrently. Introducing things to trigger small portions of phobia is one popular method. Therapists think that by systematically desensitizing their patients to the trigger, their response will be much less severe. Some therapists will utilize virtual reality or imagery exercises to accomplish this goal. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an approach to psychology that focuses in on negative thought patterns and measures that one can take to change these thought patterns has shown to be successful as well.

As far as medicine is concerned, antidepressant medications like SSRIs and MAOIs can be helpful, and benzodiazepines may occasionally be used in acute treatment of severe symptoms. If you feel as though you may suffer from a phobia that inhibits your ability to deal with life, it is strongly encouraged that you seek help, therapy has been shown to be effective.

The human brain is an amazing thing. Doubtlessly, you have probably heard someone described as “right brained” or “left brained” at least once in your life. Psychologists accentuate the difference between the left side and the right side of the brain, labeling the left brain as logical, rational, analytical and objective. The right brain is the “creative” side, associated with aesthetics, feelings, intuition, and subjectivity. In reality, the differences between the right brain and the left brain may be exaggerated in popular culture, but there still are some key differences between the two.

The left brain’s specialty are language functions like grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing. The right brain is sometimes labeled the “mute side of the brain,” doing the best at nonverbal and spatial tasks, being linked to artistic talent and facial perception.

Some evidence suggests that the left hemisphere is involved most when it comes to well rehearsed or routine processing, and the right hemisphere comes into play when it comes to processing novel situations. The left hemisphere controls the right side of the body, and the right hemisphere controls the left side. But many simple tasks require both hemispheres to be involved, and therefore communication between the two is necessary.

This is where the corpus callosum comes into play. It links the two hemispheres together and makes communication and coordination between the two possible. The corpus callosum lies along the fissure between the left and right hemispheres and is responsible for the transfer different kinds of information from one side to the next.

Sometimes, however, a surgery called corpus callosotomy is necessary, usually a last resort to treat intractable epilepsy. This surgery results in the corpus callosum being severed to a certain degree. At first, doctors will only attempt to remove one third of the corpus callosum, but if epileptic seizures persist, another one third will be lesioned, leaving only one third of the corpus callosum, and most information transfer between the two hemispheres greatly reduced. To be continued in part two….

Have you ever been on a roller coaster that was just a little too old and rickety? (Coney Island’s Cyclone, I’m looking at you!) Or when was the last time you saw a really freaky spider that made you jump from out of your seat? Is a “Daddy Longlegs” really going to do that much damage? But if you are taken aback enough, you might find that you are anxious, jittery, and sweating. These natural “flight or fight” responses are triggered by events that we find troubling.

It’s my personal theory that everyone struggles with some sort of irrational fear, but a phobia is a persistent and powerful fear of something like a situation, activity, thing, animal, or clown. If you have an excessive and unreasonable need to avoid what you fear, chances are you have a phobia. When what you fear spirals beyond your control, and if your fear is hindering your daily life, a therapist should be called in to mediate and help you regain your control.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 8.7% – 18.1% of American’s have a phobia. Did you know that phobia’s are the most common mental illness among women in all age groups and the second most common among men older than twenty five? Phobias are not typically diagnosed if they aren’t encountered on a regular basis, or if they aren’t too distressing to the person with the phobia. Think about public speaking. It makes most people squeamish, but how often do you have to speak in front of an arena of people?

From a psychological perspective, phobias can be seen as an emotional response – they occur when the fear that was produced by the first dangerous situation is transferred to other situations that are similar, while the original fear might be repressed or forgotten. From a biological perspective, an event that happens to trigger a fear response will be recorded by the amygdala and hippocampus and will be labeled as dangerous. Phobias are considered to be closely linked to the amygdala, an area of the brain that secretes hormones that control fear and aggression.

Part One, To Be Continued….

We all procrastinate at times, whether at home or at work. We try our best to avoid it but there’s times it simply gets the better of us. Although we feel powerless to resist procrastination, there are some things that you can try.

Your first step is to actually admit to yourself that you do it. There’s no great shame in it, you’re simply acknowledging the fact that you do procrastinate.

Your second step is to have a real brainstorming session, either with yourself or others, and be honest about what your procrastination is stopping you doing. This could be anything; like getting in shape, going after promotion, proposing to a loved one. We miss out on so many things in life by procrastinating.

Don’t get all melancholy and start bemoaning what you’ve missed out on, that’s gone now. What matters is how you will stop yourself from doing it in the future.

There is an old saying’ never put off until tomorrow what you can do today’, and after viewing your list you will see how sensible this saying is. Get out of this habit before it get any worse and start dealing with things when they arise, not when they have reached crisis point.

Procrastination can get us into a right mess, especially if it is something like homework assignments. You start with one, then two and eventually end up with so many that you can’t get them done in time and get a fail. This applies to everything, not just homework, get them done and out of the way straight away, then you can relax and not worry about the things you should be doing instead.

One you have achieved this step; do not assume you are cured. You need to ensure you don’t fall into the habit again. Look at what you have achieved and how much easier it was than you expected it to be and how capable you really are.

If you have been sensible and followed the steps in this article, congratulations, you should be feeling pretty pleased with yourself! You have gotten those tasks down and are still here to tell the tale. Seriously though, from now on you must deal with everything immediately and if you start putting things off again, go through the steps again.

Aside from procrastination, this author additionally regularly writes on wood stools for kitchens and bed step stools.

Many people are in awe at the mysteriousness of psychic readings. Psychics have the mysterious power to see what others cannot. This is a special gift that has been given to them; however, it takes many years of practice to learn how to use this gift properly. Most psychics charge at least a small fee for their services. There are some companies on the market today that will let you try a sample psychic reading before you decide to pay for a reading.

After you have found a company that offers free reading then you will need to choose a psychic. While this is much easier than finding a company that offers free psychic readings, it can still be a difficult choice. It is important that you read the profiles and viewpoints of several different psychics to determine which psychic is best for you.

Most sites require you to register before speaking with a psychic. You will need to register on the site that you choose before you receive your reading. Once you have registered, you can dial in and connect with a psychic.

Psychics have been a part of people’s lives throughout history. In almost every decade and every culture, there are some instances of psychics. In some cultures, psychics were feared so much that they were killed. In other cultures, psychics were seen as a gateway to God.

In some cultures psychics are still feared. However, more and more people are beginning to accept the fact of real live psychics. Many people fully believe in psychic powers, although many others are not so sure they believe. However, many do believe that each individual has psychic powers and abilities, although many do not remember or know that they have such natural human power. Many do wonder about the ability of how to tap into this natural human ability.

Tapping into Your Psychic Powers

You can tap into your psychic powers by getting a free psychic reading. You can also begin the practice of meditation, since it will aid you to tap into your subconscious. Once you learn how to do this you and your subconscious mind will begin working to develop your psychic abilities.

There are various means of meditation and you must choose the best way to meditate for yourself. Use what works best for you. However, this does not mean sitting cross-legged on the floor for hours. This is an uncomfortable position. In fact, many individuals do not use this position for meditation.

Becoming totally comfortable and relaxed is essential during meditation. Focus on your breathing, while you draw your attention inward. You should be comfortable enough to relax yet not so much as to fall asleep. Staying in the state just before falling asleep is the objective of meditation.

Meditation takes a lot of practice. You will want to practice meditating for a good 30-60 minutes a day. You can do this all at one time or split it up.

A lot of people don’t believe that it’s possible to communicate telepathically. Despite the widespread skepticism about telepathy, the idea of being able to communicate mind-to-mind as well as the concept of mind control are things which have long had a grip over the human imagination. For centuries, people have experimented with telepathy and written about the topic extensively.

Telepathic communication is something that we do on occasion. Have you ever been picking up the phone to call someone just to say hi, and right then they called? You just knew they were thinking about you. Have you ever just known what someone was going to say? Some of these incidences are coincidence, but nearly everybody has had an experience where they knew something they shouldn’t have. It was as if they had read somebody’s mind.

While it may seem like something out of a sci-fi movie, communicating telepathically on a regular basis is something that can be achieved. Everyone is born with the ability to communicate using only their minds, but this generally fades as we get older.

As long as you’re committed enough to devote time and effort to practicing, you can learn to access your telepathy. While you can practice on your own, many have a much easier time learning when they have an experienced telepath to guide them through the process.

There is a lot of practice involved and you’ll need to spend plenty of time working on your mental focus. It’s preferable to practice with someone else, since this makes it easier to accurately judge how well you’re coming along.

Choose someone that you know well and who is interested in learning about telepathy as well. Someone who isn’t interested and doesn’t believe in it will only be a hindrance to you. If you are already “in tune” with the person, this will make it easier. If you already feel like you can communicate with them without words, you will have a jump-start. Think of it as the door to their mind is already open to you a little bit and this makes it easier to open it wider.

Start small at first. One person should be trying to “send” messages, and the other should be trying to receive them. Both of you should be keeping notes on what message you are trying to get to the other person, and the impressions you are getting. Things such as colors, images, and other simple, clear thoughts are the best things to try to share.

It’s not certain at how long of a distance people can communicate telepathically with each other. People who have learned to control their telepathic abilities may be able to send thoughts back and forth over hundreds, even thousands of miles.

Learning to use your natural ability to communicate telepathically takes time and patience; if you expect it to happen in a day, you’ll be setting yourself up for disappointment. This is something which needs to be brought to the surface – and once you’re able to access this part of your mind, it will take time to learn to control it. Patience and practice are key.

In a way, it’s like learning a second language. At first, it seems as if you’ll never master it and it’s easy to become frustrated but with time and dedication, it eventually becomes a natural means of expression as you gain fluency. When you have a friend to practice with, you can provide each other the support and encouragement you need to stick with it.

One way to keep motivated as you learn to communicate telepathically is to quit while you’re ahead in your practice sessions. When you and your partner have had some success but you’re not yet tired from the mental effort, stop. If you’re not having any luck, stop before you get frustrated; this will only make you want to quit. If you can’t make a telepathic communication in about 15 minutes of trying, then you should set it aside until later.

You most definitely can learn how to communicate telepathically with others. If you find some good advice given by people who understand the subject, and then apply yourself to it diligently, you will start seeing results. When this new world of communication and understanding is opened to you, you will be glad that you learned this new skill.

Nick Symmonds is a writer for the http://www.telepathyrevealed.com website. Anyone can easily develop their powers of telepathy and you can try it yourself when you find out the real hidden secrets of how to communicate telepathically when you visit here and get your FREE DVD Package.

Like many other skills, especially those that are of a psychic nature, telepathy is something most of us can do, but we don’t know how best to use it. What is telepathy? It’s the ability to communicate with other people by using mind power instead of by using regular communication methods. With telepathy, how you communicate is to directly practice “transference” of sensations, ideas, thoughts, emotions, feelings, and even mental images to others, without using other more ordinary forms of communication.

Many if not most of us can at least somewhat be telepathic, but we may not realize it. People who have very strong communicative abilities with animals, for example, such as so-called “horse whisperers,” can actually communicate with telepathy, such that they know what the animals are thinking.

Twins can often finish each other sentences and carry on entire conversations using only the power of their minds. Even regular siblings can often just look at each other and know what the other is thinking about or feeling. When married couples and lovers are in heightened states, they can sense if the other is in danger, under attack, or has even died.

Telepathy is sometimes called a “sixth sense,” which again probably means that it’s something most of us possess. We just have to be able to utilize this skill, learn about telepathy, how it works, and what we can use it for. Once we do this, we can take our own telepathic skills and put them to good use as well.

Even if you haven’t been trained formally in telepathy, how to use it often comes naturally to people when they are in particularly stressful situations. Nonetheless, it’s a good idea to hone telepathic skills in a calm state when you actually want to learn about them. Then, test yourself in such a peaceful situation. You can get a partner, such as a relative or friend, to help you with this. For example, gather some photos or small items together, like pens, rubber bands, or pencils, and then you and your partner should sit down together, facing away from each other in the same room, or in different rooms. Make sure distractions are not present.

Now, with telepathy, how to do it, simply be absolutely “present” right now, in what you’re doing. Have one person send messages, and the other receive them. The sender of the information should take one of the objects in a time and concentrate on sending powerful mind pictures to the receiver. Besides the items you’ve collected, you can also simply think of strong emotions, pictures, words, colors, etc. Agree on a signal before you start doing the telepathic exercises.

The person operating in the role of the sender concentrates on sending telepathic messages to the receiver, with the receiver likewise concentrating on receiving whatever information is being sent by the sender. If the receiver is relaxed, he or she will be more open to receiving whatever the sender is sending, like emotions, images, and so on. When the receiver receives a message from the sender, he or she should write down what was received, or a sender can also choose to say that he or she has finished concentrating on a particular item so that the receiver knows that particular telepathic message is complete. In the receiver can simply verbalize the image, etc., received your telepathic means.

When you practice telepathy, how to do it, agree with your partner on a signal beforehand. For example, you can agree that you will simply focus on colors, so that when the receiver says, “Done sending,” or some other similar signal, the receiver can then say the color aloud, such as “green.” Then, the sender can simply say, “yes, or “no,” before moving onto the next thing.

With telepathy, how to do it, it’s a good idea to start with just 10 minutes before you move on to more complex and longer sessions. Each person partnering for the session can spend part of the time being the sender, and part of the time being the receiver. As you become better at this, you can also move onto more complicated images like playing cards, and then send images, the suit of the card, or the number being displayed in your mind for the receiver to note. Keep a record of the sessions you do so that you can keep track and see where you’ve made progress with the development of natural telepathic abilities.

You can also learn telepathy how to without using a partner. As a beginner you can focus on putting out a signal to those you already have a close spiritual or mental bond with to make the telepathic message more likely to be received. With this person in mind, turn your energies to sending them a message or getting them to take an action.

Or, for example, you could focus on getting a friend or family member to call you, or planting idea in your head that your spouse should bring home something you need. Don’t be surprised when the person on the receiving end of your message will suddenly call home or alter what they were going to do because you’ve sent them a telepathic message.

Pets are also great ways to learn telepathy, how to master it, because animals are very intuitive and open to this type of process. See how quickly you can pick up on pets’ feelings, such as if your dog is hungry, ill, or uncomfortable.

Continuing in the mastery of telepathy, as you become more skilled, you can practice telepathic skills on people you don’t know well. One way to do this with telepathy, how to advance, is to focus on people you have only casual acquaintances with, like neighbors or coworkers. This next step should involve people you come in contact with regularly, but are not close with. Pay attention; you may simply notice, for example, that someone is experiencing intense emotion, and you may be able to “tap into” what that person is feeling and maybe even discern actual words or thoughts coming from people’s minds.

When one makes the decision to go into a mental health field as a career there are many options available. The individual opting for this career should be dedicated to helping others in difficult situations, be prepared for life long learning and a dedication to commitment. Some psychiatry jobs are more intense than others and there is a difference in working as a psychologist and as a psychiatrist.

Becoming a doctor is possible in both fields, the difference as a psychiatrist they are a medical doctor and a psychologist could have a doctorate degree. The doctorate degree could be either a PhD or a PsyD; however, they are not licensed to practice medicine. Both will have their specializations relating to psychology and both have a specific type of psychology they prefer to utilize in their practice.

A child psychiatry specialization is when their clients are children. The families are often included in the treatment, rather it be as a result of a child being subjected to a traumatic occurrence or a mental health behavior problem. When the specialization is children it is important to realize that there will be unpleasant situations with family members, it is not always only the child who is being seen.

Specializing in sports psychology requires the ability to help clients involved in various sports. Situations may include them having difficulties in controlling their temper during an event or they become overwhelmed with pressure to always play well, the issues could widely vary.

The forensic field is not always silence of lambs type clients. It does normally involve working with someone in a criminal situation. The individual could be claiming an insanity plea and your job would be to determine if they were insane at the time of the crime or you could be called as a professional witness specializing in a particular field of crime. It will always be of a different nature. Criminal psychology is more often trying to determine the behavior aspect and reason for the criminal behavior.

To be a psychiatrist requires a lot of education. Starting with a bachelors degree in science, another four years of medical school, an internship followed by residency. After all of the years of school is a state board examination which they must pass in order to be licensed. They are licensed to practice medicine.

They are medical doctors which mean they are entitled to prescribe medications. A psychologist, even with a doctorate degree cannot prescribe medications. Contrary to popular belief a psychiatrist will not generally write a prescription and send the patient away. They are still concerned with treating the problem for which the patient may need medications. As a general psychiatrist they will usually treat patients of all ages for a variety of mental illnesses.

For someone to say they want to get psychiatry jobs is not a simple process. This form of a medical career takes years of hard work, commitment and determination. These individuals are medical doctors and have studied side by side with the same individual doing surgery or repairing a broken bone, they simply chose to specialize in psychology.

Healthcare staffing center offering medical jobs across the country from hospitalist Jobs to rn jobs.

Bipolar disorder may cause mood swings that will range from the lows of depression to the highs of mania. During the lows, an individual may feel sad or hopeless or even lose interest in numerous activities. When mood shifts into the other way, an individual may feel happy and full of energy. The occurrence of mood shifts may be as little as a number of times a year to as many as a number of times a week. In some cases, biploar mood disorder may cause indications of both depression and mania at the same time.

Bipolar treatments often involve a combination of medicine and psychotherapy. It is also crucial that folks with this condition discover what bipolar disorder symptoms they usually get before they start to have episodes so that they can try to stop the episode with the proper treatment before it is getting full-on. Different medicines work the best for different folk, so it might take some trial – error prior to the proper mix is determined for any one individual. The different medicines each have their own side effects, so it’s a sensible idea to take a look at them so that you can try those with the least potential complications first, and then move on to those with more possible complications if the 1st ones do not work for you.

Generally bipolar treatments will require long term treatment since it’s not a lingering, relapsing sickness. Most people that suffer with this disorder need to be on medication in order to prevent new episodes and stay symptom free. Medicine alone won’t completely control all symptoms , however , so the most efficient treatment technique generally involves a mix of medication, care, life changes and social support. Diagnosing bipolar disorder can sometimes be hard, and that’s the reason why it’s important to work with a trained psychiatrist.

So far, there seem to be a couple of different factors involved in causing and triggering either a manic episode or bipolar depression. A few of these factors include, the environment where stress or significant loss can perform a part in the disorder. It’s also much more usually found in those who have a blood relative,eg a sibling or parent, with the disorder. And ultimately, folk with bipolar disorder seem to have physical changes in their brains and analysts believe that understanding these changes can help pinpoint the reasons behind the disorder.

Bipolar disorder is basically split into several different sub-types, and each one has a different pattern of bipolar disorder symptoms. If someone is suffering from Biploar I disorder, the mood swings can cause significant difficulties in a job, relationship or college. Manic episodes can be severe and perilous. In Bipolar II disorder, you will experience and elevated mood and some bad temper, but generally you can carry on with your ordinary, daily running order. The exact symptoms can change from person to person and this is why treatment is aimed at a particular person, and not just a’one size fits all’.

Therapy, in most of its various forms, presents a wide range of opportunities for clients to overcome their difficulties and to approach the needs of life vigorously and with and an enhanced sense of self. Nevertheless, some individuals, especially those who are new to the discipline, may feel nervous or pessimistic about approaching counseling sessions.

Being uncertain about therapy is a simple part of coming to understand its benefits for many people, but when working with a certified and sincere mental health therapist, people can consider the possibilities of the discipline to begin feeling more secure and positive about their counseling sessions.

Over the years, people have come to appreciate and actually look forward to these periods of therapy. These therapeutic moments allows them to better address the challenges of their lives. There are various elements particular to the therapy experience that can assist in making therapy sessions more enjoyable, and make them desirable periods in the hustle of everyday life.

The silent and confidential atmosphere found in most types of therapy is beneficial for many people, particularly people who are busy, city-dwellers, and those who are not very often exposed to a slow pace or a relaxed space. For a lot of people, a therapist’s office can act as an avenue of escape, which can really aid the course of therapy by drawing true self-reflection and open communication.

However, because of the many benefits provided by therapy on the lives of people, it is possible that people might occasionally become very reliant on these counseling sessions. These in turn might cause clients to become less willing to resolve the reasons that bring them to the therapist, a possibility that has ended in many psychotherapists employing a more collaborative approach during therapy sessions.

Like most things which are enjoyed, it is possible for these periods of therapy to become addictive. But allowing oneself to enjoy therapy time without using it wrongly or taking it for granted can lead to a greatly enhanced overall experience.

If you’re considering psychotherapy, you can uncover more about the many methods of treatment available and find a caring professional therapist near you at GoodTherapy.
