High Stress Is Causing Alcohol Abuse In The Army

For a long while now, the United States military has been trying hard to fight the widespread abuse of alcohol by its listed service personnel. They have however not gained much ground, as quite the opposite still seems to prevail. The specific group that seems to have a greater problem is the age group of 18 to 25.

To most abusive drinkers, the immediate culprit to take the blame is stress and tension. However, things are quite different when it comes to the people in green. There is more than just emotional ups and downs.

Strenuous kinds of training are put to use at the military camps. The aim of these is to prepare the army personnel to survive with the demanding combat environment. Unfortunately, they come with their own price. The mental effects are high.

The military has long been viewed as a male domain. It therefore doubles the pressure for women who enroll because then, they need to prove that they can be as effective.

Women have to deal with sexual harassment among those other pressures while in the service. It is unbearable to some. There is a lot of stereotyping that follows their profession.

So how come the army is taking the alcohol abuse issue that seriously? Well, they recognize that if not curtailed, their performance within and without the service will be affected. It is therefore a preventive measure.

Many marriages are in turmoil because of alcohol abuse. This makes them become of less importance to the military cause.
