Reports About Near-Death Experiences

Reports of after-death experiences are nothing new, but they seem to becoming more and more common in recent years. Individuals who have suffered serious injuries and been pronounced clinically dead have sometimes regained consciousness, and upon returning, told of strange sights that they saw while in this altered state.

Even more interesting is that many reports of near-death experiences have certain aspects in common. These experiences occur when the individual is not breathing and has no pulse, at which point they are considered clinically dead.

One of the most common aspects of these experiences is a vision of light and images of the individual’s family and friends. They claim to get the impression that they’re in a tunnel as well. Despite the strangeness of these visions, the people claim that they feel very at peace during the entire experience.

Many people believe that because there are so many common elements between different reports of after-death experiences, there must be some truth to them. They say that since people seem to be experiencing the same thing, it must be based in truth.

Doctors say that everything about these near-death experiences can be explained by science, however. The visions of tunnels, they say, are created by a lack of blood flow to the retinas, while the flashes of light and other images are a result of the chemicals being produced by the brain in response to the stressful situation.

Those who have had near-death experiences, however, swear that everything in their visions was real, and some claim that they can’t be explained by science.

Unfortunately, it seems that the mystery of near-death experiences is likely far off from being solved. It may never even be solved at all, and if science can’t find an adequate explanation for these events, we may never know the truth until the moment we each pass away ourselves.

Doctors and scientists continue to study near-death experiences, as they may be able to provide some insights into the way the human brain functions.
