			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Expectation spawns frustration, frustration spawns anger, and we become irritable. Every day, we create expectations for a variety of things. No matter how well-meaning our expectation, the moment the expectation isn&#8217;t met, our emotions take a beating. It&#8217;s as though we&#8217;re barely able to resist taking a beating from unmet expectations.</p>
<p>We have expectations of others. We have expectations about ourselves. We have expectations of things. We have expectations of the weather. We have expectations about almost anything. And mind you, once on our path, manifesting our meaning, expectations will creep in, and we won&#8217;t notice until it hits us and beats our emotions to a pulp.</p>
<p>What we seemingly don&#8217;t ever notice is how much emotional pain we create for ourselves with our expectations. Creating expectations is a little dynamic that has almost no resolution. As you and I walk our own path, we&#8217;ll have the notion of not wanting to create expectations. I can guarantee that when we expect it the least, the expectation will visit us quietly. And then, when it&#8217;s nicely settled and the heat&#8217;s turned up, our emotions will boil over and we won&#8217;t know why we&#8217;re suddenly angry, or in a foul mood, or frustrated or irritated &#8211; all because somewhere along the line, an expectation crept into the equation.</p>
<p>Expectation truly is like a wild card. Think about it; we are mere mortals, but we expect some predetermined result from ourselves, others, and other things. Why should something turn out a certain way because we want it to?</p>
<p>This is admittedly an extreme example to show how we create expectations and the futility of doing so, but the concept depicted by the example is the same: We arrange an outing over a weekend and suddenly the weather turns and our outing is washed out due to rain. We&#8217;re suddenly up in arms, frustrated, even angry. And we&#8217;re possibly irritated with the next person that comes into our space. This is really futile. We have no say over the weather!</p>

<p>What is required is that we recognize this pattern, and break out of its spell even though it feels risky and scary &#8211; this is indeed liberating. By going for what we like doing, we overcome what creates, ensures and guarantees the something-is-missing feeling. By doing this, we&#8217;ll slowly, ever so slowly, remove the hole, the emptiness, the feeling that something is missing.</p>
<p>This is worth repeating: What&#8217;s missing is that we&#8217;re forever giving up on ourselves. What we like doing is what&#8217;s missing from our lives. Thus we are missing from our lives, because we give up on ourselves. With us living by such a pattern, it cannot feel different; it can only feel that something is missing.</p>
<p>For example: Say we&#8217;re living our lives mostly wanting to do the right thing. Say we meet someone, we meet their parents, and we get married. We settle into setting up house. We have children. In the meantime, we settle into our job. We might first have a few jobs just to see where our interests are, but eventually we settle. So now, we have the perfect setting. And, yes, in some cases pets. And during this time, what we do is to ensure that this perfect picture isn&#8217;t disturbed. We might have wanted something else, or to do more with our lives. We might not know what yet. But this perfect picture gets all our attention.</p>

This will also make the shindig that you are planning more festive. That being said, the second common mistake new managers make is to be too nice or lenient.</p>
<p>Quite often planners (mostly new managers) will have friendly relationships with certain employees that they feel may deteriorate if they act like they should. It is important to realize that they have a job to do and that their friendship needs to come second.</p>
<p>A nice and friendly environment also helps prevent bogus lawsuits and claims. People are much less likely to martyr themselves against you or blame you for things that happen when they like you but if you create an environment where you are not respected they may not work hard for you and make make too many mistakes.</p>
<p>As the project that you are planning develops, the best thing to do is to unite your employees over a common enemy (goal). You can do this by pinpointing problems that need to be fixed and gain enthusiasm.</p>
