While exercise and diet are important aspects of getting in shape, they are usually not the rate limiting factors. In reality, the mental game is what throws most people off.

And most people do not have an action plan in place to help them reach peak mental performance.

So, without further ado, here is how to prevent your motivation from fading:

1. Self-monitor your progress: It’s a natural human trait to overlook progress over long periods of time. After all, your brain has limited storage capacity and will only recall the essentials. A great way around this motivation destroyer is to keep track of all your milestones.

2. Avoid perfectionism: From business to nature, the top performers have the highest rates of failure. You see, paradoxically, the more you fail the higher your chances of success are. So don’t think you should have a perfect journey.

3. Manipulate your environment before manipulating your behavior: This simple adjustment can literally make or break your progress. It’s much easier to change your environment than it is to change yourself. This has been proven time and again by multiple studies.

4. Have massive goals: Although your short term expectations need to be realistic, your endpoint should be huge. You see, small goals lead to small amounts of action. However, massive goals lead to massive amounts of action.

5. Don’t beat yourself into action: Although this strategy may work in the short term, in the long term it will drain you of the will to move forward. Instead, motivate yourself by moving towards something positive, don’t run away from something negative.

6. Avoid baby steps: The only time you should reduce the amount of work you are doing is when you feel absolutely overwhelmed. You see, if you take too many baby steps you won’t see fast results. And in the absence of results you are more likely to jump ship.

A solid plan for long term motivation is a critical component for long term success. So don’t just sit on this information, take action now!

Life in the big city can be a tiring and stressful existence. For those who are relatively new to it, the transition can prove surprisingly difficult that it’s easy to lose sight in what is happening around us.

When I lost my job, it was then that all these things were made surprisingly clear to me. Despite how complicated this life can get, we must not lose sight and appreciate the simple joys of life. I decided there and then to schedule routine activities that will help me relax and just wind down.

I’d like to share three simple ways of doing so that I’ve found to be extremely helpful in this regard.

First off, if you have a bath tub in your house I would suggest you take full advantage of it by taking a warm bath regularly.

At the end of the day, nothing can be as soothing and relaxing as a warm bath. I would advise taking it with your favorite tunes and just savor the moment. This can be your way of pampering yourself every now and then.

Reading can also do wonders in easing down on the stress. Give yourself a quite time each day to just sit back and enjoy your favorite book. You may also invite a couple of friends who’ve read the same book over and share your thoughts about it.

While it may not exactly be your ideal way of unwinding, running can be an excellent source of relaxation. It enables me to keep my mind off things and have that great feeling at the end. If you want to keep fit, this would be the excellent way to go.

An intense run after a warm bath may just be what you need to go all out.

Besides these activities, the writer also regularly blogs on ice hockey bags and a heated neck wrap.

Everyone comes under stress sometimes and for most of us that is when we are working. Having a boss is stressful enough, but at least the buck stops on his or her desk. When you work for yourself you have the stresses of normal workers, but you also have the additional stresses of complying with the law, the taxation system and the unions and the penalties can be very serious if you slip up. Ignorance of the law is no excuse as the judge will say as the gavel comes down and your cheque book comes out.

People deal with their stress in their own ways, but it is valuable to note a few of the popular ways to reduce stress levels in a home business situation. A simple but often very successful way to lessen stress is to have a pertinent, but comic poster near-by for you to look at.

My Dad was a builder and on the wall opposite his desk was a poster of a monkey in overalls attempting to put building blocks on top on one another. Underneath it read: “You Do Not Have To Be Mad To Work here, But It Helps”.

It is an old one, but it was in the seventies and the whole point is that whenever he read it, it made him smile. Another poster he had was of a huge tiger stroling through the edge of a jungle clearing. Again inspirational. Others might choose Kipling: “If you can walk with crowds and keep your virtue” et cetera or a paragraph from the Bible.

Motivational posters, pictures and mantras are very helpful, but sometimes you have to have more, because high levels of stress are considered an occupational hazard for people in business for themselves. One thing that I like to have near-by is a small fridge just for me (but I do work alone) and inside it are treats that I only touch when I need to.

There are expensive ice creams, gourmet chocolates and my favourite drinks, including chocomilk, fruit-flavoured spa water and home-made iced tea and iced coffee. If i am stumped, I take a moment out to eat or drink something and relax by looking out of the window. Five minutes later, I feel capable to have another go at the issue.

Some people find that playing one of the games that comes with most types of Windows for fifteen minutes helps a lot, but I prefer to stay productive so I just switch jobs for a while. Like most people in the West these days, I have a broadband connection that is ‘always on’, so email is coming in all the time too.

If I am having a problem with something and the answer just will not appear, I switch over to Outlook and read and reply to a couple of emails. I find that taking my mind off the immediate problem for a time helps me to refocus, and I have not lost any time because I have to go through the mail at some time anyway.

No matter how good your fat loss plan is, if you can’t stick with it for the long haul, you will not get results. Even worse, you may get results only to see them vanish before your eyes.

Unfortunately, most people do not know how to stick with it mentally.

So, without further ado, here is what to do so that your motivation doesn’t vanish:

1. Have very specific goals: The more vague your goals are, the more likely it is that you will not succeed. You see, vague goals lead to vague action. On the other hand, specific goals lead to very specific action that creates rapid change.

2. Don’t bully yourself into action: Instead of forcing yourself to do something in order to avoid a negative outcome, push yourself to do something because you are going towards a positive outcome. In other words, use a carrot, not a whip to motivate yourself.

3. Run towards failure: You are going to fail, so don’t get all hung up when it happens. Instead, learn from your failure and never stop moving forward. This is the best way to make sure you get fast results. And keep in mind that the most successful people have the highest rates of failure.

4. Make your environment extremely motivating: Don’t rely on internal drive and self control here. Manipulate your environment as much as possible for the best results here. If you do this, you are much more likely to succeed.

5. Focus on systems, not minutiae: This is one of the best things you can do to relieve psychological pressure on yourself. You see, if you sweat the small stuff and obsess over results you are going to mentally burn out. And this is the last thing you want here.

6. Set time limits as often as possible: Having time limits is a great way to get more done. You see, time limits force you to focus on the critical steps for success. Otherwise, your main goal might remain a dream. Use deadlines here to increase your chances of reaching your goal.

Motivation is usually what makes or breaks a person’s progress. So make sure you take action here sooner rather than later!

Clutter certainly can cause stress and anxiety. It is very irritating to never be able to find objects when you require them, especially if you are in a hurry. Losing your car keys or your glasses or your wallet in your disorderly home is a mark of a lack of organization, but it is a pain in the neck as well because it wastes so much time and usually just when you do not have time to waste.

The problem is basically one of organization. Because it is human nature to hoard everything, our homes and offices soon become cluttered, so unless you have regular clear-outs or organize your stuff properly, you are going to lose things frequently.

Everything should have a place and everything should be in its place, that way you will know where to look for items. Tools should be stored in the garage, preferably on holders or nails on the wall. Gardening implements should be in the garden shed, likewise put away so that you can see what is out and where everything is. Kitchen gear should be in the kitchen, office paperwork should be filed away in cabinets or and folders.

You must take the time to put items away when you have used them and not leave them lying around until you have ‘a clean up later’. A clean up later is no good, you need to do it now. A stitch in time saves nine, as the old saying goes.

Documents should be stored as they would in a well-organized office. You may not have enough papers to warrant having a filing cabinet, but you can get a filing box that looks like a small, plastic suitcase, but they open from the top.

One side is hinged, so that it can open out and the case contains a dozen or so compartments which can be labeled for ‘Insurance’, ‘Bank Statements’, ‘Credit Card Statements’, ‘Bills’ et cetera. They are very useful and not expensive. This must also have a place, say in the wardrobe.

If you think that even this is going too far, then three shoe boxes can be utilized: one for ‘permanent’ items such as wedding certificate, birth certificate, passport, insurance etc., one for the storage of items you have already dealt with like credit card and bank statements and utility bills and one for mail to be answered and bills to be paid.

Every year you can then go through the shoe boxes and bundle up items from the previous year or discard items that have become obsolete. Maybe a good time would be after filing your tax returns. In many countries, you have to hold on to tax records for seven years, so a fourth shoe box could hold the previous seven years worth of documents.

Clean out your attic or basement to make room for more junk. A good rule is, if you have not used something for five years, you do not require it, so sell it, give away or bin it.

Buy or make a key rack or just screw hooks into the back of your front door, that way you can hang your keys up when you come in and take them with you when you go out. Get a cord for your glasses and hang them around your neck. When you really do not need them, you can hang them up somewhere visible by the cord as well.

Although we are all conscious of the fact that most people are under more stress than ever before, do people also realize how very bad for you too much stress can be?

Although we are all conscious of the fact that most people are under more stress than ever before, do people also realize how very bad for you too much stress can be?

At the thin edge of the wedge, stress can give you butterflies in your stomach or even diarrhea; it can produce headaches and even depression and it can lead to heart disease. Stress can seriously affect your mind and your body. Having said that, some stress is or can be a good thing.

Some people say that they work better under stress, actors and some executives, for instance, but the real key is to be able to manage your stress levels within a sector that you are comfortable with.

The first step to dealing with stress is to find out what is giving you the most stress. The two main causes are financial and emotional: either you cannot pay your bills or you are having problems with your partner. Next comes your job, your kids and your house or an illness in the family.

What can you do to alleviate this stress? Well, to be truthful, it is horses for courses. We are not all the same and we do not all enjoy doing the same things, but I can name a couple of the most popular ways of reducing stress without having to go to a psychiatrist.

Reading a book in a comfortable and relaxing location is quite de-stressing to many people. Sitting up in warm bed or sitting out in a scented garden reading a good book is very popular. So is writing. Some people find that it helps to write their feelings down. This need not be in the form of a novel, but you could maintain a diary, a journal or even a blog (an online, interactive journal).

These writings can be as basic or as complicated as you like: from random jottings about how you feel to full explanations. Only do not allow writing become a chore, which will only add to your stress.

You could also take a hot bath or go for a cool swim. You could enjoy a sauna, a Jacuzzi or a massage or a facial or pedicure or have your hair done. Pampering yourself is a good way of rewarding yourself, which will give you a feeling of accomplishment, which will also relieve stress. It makes all that stress seem worth it.

Often stress comes out of chaos, so try to put some order back into your life. The best place to start is to try to sort out your time, your life, around the things that you NEED to do. You need to eat, rest, pay your bills and work (whether that is in the home or at a job).

Once you have plotted enough time to achieve those duties, you can ‘fill in the gaps’ with other activities that you would like to do. This is the space for friends, hobbies, sports or even a second job, so that you can afford a really special holiday, but keep the second job a fun job.

Keeping away from negative people will reduce your stress.. Some people are always grousing and those people are no good to you. Socialize with people who are positive about life; people who appreciate that not everything will always go their own way and understand that they have to do something about it, not just grumble over another beer between puffs on a cigarette.

However if you do not abide by this, and push her boundaries, you run the risk of not only being growled at but also very possibly bit or severely attacked. A dog, like most animals, first instinct is to protect their young from anything they deem is a threat.

In the wild, this is simply natural. In fact, sometimes animals will even kill in an attempt to defend their young and themselves. That’s the only way to survive. It’s truly a matter of survival of the fittest.

Nowadays, we still find ourselves with that same instinct. For instance, if someone was to get mugged their first instinct is to defend themselves in whatever way they can. The knowing of how to defend oneself by using martial arts is defined as ” self defense” arts.

There are various types of self-defense. There are various classes ,workshops, and certifications you can get in the art of self-defense tactics. There are even weapons available to make you feel safe and secure, and that are also discreet.

Self-defense is designed for men and women alike. The knowledge one can have in learning self-defense is just as important for both sexes, as anyone can find himself or herself in a sticky situation.

Regardless of which type of self-defense techniques you learn, the key thing to remember is that as long as you use common sense to avoid sketchy situations that could result in needing self-defense, you will be a lot better off. It is important to think wisely before entering curtain situations that could result in needing self-defense.

In addition to self-defense, the author additionally frequently writes on removable wall decals and sports wall decals.

There is a good deal of stress in everyone’s lives these days and that includes children and teenagers. Children and teenagers come under stress from many sources but especially from warring parents and exams. However, children and teenagers are not as well prepared to cope with stress as adults should be.

The death of a parent and bullying at school are also reasons for stress in children and teenagers. The death of a parent can require counseling, bullying calls for adult help, usually from school staff. These four cases of stress in children and teenagers can lead to mental health issues like depression, ADHD and aggression.

Other causes of milder stress, which can however be the straw that broke the camel’s back, are as follows.

Moving to a new school, new town or joining a new club, like cub scouts is stressful to a lot of kids. They will not have a lot, if any, friends there and will be uncertain of the local customs, which can be nerve wracking. Being on edge like this is very stressful.

Learning how to deal with deadlines is not easy for a lot of young people. Nor is working alone to complete a project. Both of these abilities are taught through homework and most children have issues with homework. They hate it. This also causes stress to build up, particularly if the child does not know how to do the homework and there is no one to help. Perhaps the child does not want to ask or perhaps the parents are incapable of helping.

Linked with school, if a parent is too assertive about achieving high grades, it can have stressful effects that are opposite to what was wanted. Parents have to recognize the fine line between encouraging and pushing their children to do well in school.

Low self esteem due to a brighter or more praised sibling is also the cause of stress. Parents who have a favourite and make this obvious run a serious risk of hurting their other children. Never ever choose a favourite (my ‘number one son’ or ‘my little princess’) and if you can not help yourself, then never let it show.

The news can distress some children, especially gory details like terrorist bombings and natural disasters. These are felt much more intensely of course if they happen locally. Similar to this is if a close family member suffers a terminal illness or even a serious accident like a car crash and the loss of a limb. They may undergo short term stress if they have an illness like mumps or measles or break an arm or a leg as well.

Children quickly pick up on problems between their parents and also on financial difficulties in the home. Try to keep these things to yourself and do not quarrel often in front of your children.

You can help in the home by ensuring that your children have love and understanding and by not being too demanding. They are only kids, but they sometimes have to put up with adult sized stress too. Try to help them not make too big an issue of problems.

Exercise is one of the best ways to combat depression. However, when done in excess, as with most things in life, it can actually cause depression or make a current episode of depression worse.

But things don’t just stay in your mind, unfortunately, because depression will actually change the composition of your body.

So here is how to tell if exercise is making you depressed:

1. Things no longer excite you: Perhaps one of the most revealing signs of depression, when you no longer get excited by things that used to excite you, depression is probably budding. This happens because depression puts on negative blinders within your mind.

2. You gain or lose weight at extreme rates: Now too much exercise can cause this as well, so figuring out which is which can be hard. Nonetheless, serious depression can cause very rapid gains or losses in body mass. And negativity in most thought processes is also present.

3. Sleeping irregularities: Similar to eating patterns, any alteration in your fitness program can change the way you sleep. The key indicator here is how much of a change you notice. Extreme changes are usually an indication of depression.

4. Problems concentrating: Unfortunately, depression can cause changes to the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory. So if you are seriously depressed, mental processing speeds could plummet to the point where making decisions is extremely difficult.

5. Thoughts of death or suicide: Once someone reaches this stage, their depression is extremely serious. At this point, the thought processes and the mental outlook is so poor that death is seen as the only way to experience relief.

Now exercise can be one of the most powerful tools for decreasing depression. However, if you abuse it, it can do more harm than good.

Writer Katherine Crawford, a fitness expert and former fat arms sufferer, instructs on how to tone flabby arms.

I consider myself plenty intelligent. Still, there are some things I just can’t wrap my head around. One of these things is dodgeball. I don’t understand dodge ball at all. When did it become fun’ for kids to hurl hard plastic balls at one another? And why is this considered a game instead of a form of violence?

I can remember being on the playground as a child and dreading dodgeball. We had no way to get out of it. Out on the concrete, our gym teachers would herd us into a circle and pick a few unlucky kids , usually the new kids , to stand in the circle.

These kids in the circle were the targets for other kids to try to hit with the balls. The kids would have to bob and weave and try to keep from being hit as long as they could. It was impossible to successfully dodge for long. The first time I played, I got hit smack in the face.

It hit me so hard, in fact, that it knocked me out. I fell down and was out for two minutes. When I woke up I started crying; it hurt a whole lot. I still felt my face throbbing a day later and I had a bruise that served as a sore reminder.

I can’t figure out where the benefit is. It’s not really a sport, it doesn’t teach anything but brutality.

I mean, think about it. What does dodgeball teach? Be afraid of your peers? People are going to attack you? Really, there is no constructive outcome to this game.

When I look back to my own childhood, I am astounded to think about kids being able to play this way. There are so many other games to play while on recess. Why would schools want to encourage a game that is based on being violent?

I truly cannot think of any benefit that can possibly come from dodgeball. I’m so glad that I won’t ever have to take a gym class ever again.

The writer also often writes about products such as portable digital projectors and the projector stand.
