We may find ourselves looking at other parents and criticizing their behavior. It’s easy to judge from the sidelines and say that parents should always be calm and understanding when it comes to their children and that they should have the patience of a saint. Before we start looking at other parents this way, let’s keep in mind that no one is perfect, not even the best parent in the world.

Life leads us to many situations where it’s difficult to stay cool and level-headed. However, most people would agree that even though we may lose our temper sometimes, we should all try our best at whatever we do. This is a big difference between people; some are willing to always try their best while others are not.

Some people are constantly looking for new ways to improve themselves and working hard to make things better while others aren’t so quick to take the initiative. Giving up on improving oneself sets a poor example for the family.

What sounds like the easier route? Being proactive and making difficult changes to improve your life, or letting the chips fall where they may? Many parents feel that it’s too difficult to make serious changes for the better and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

Still, no one can deny that we’re all in control of our actions and our viewpoints. It may not always be easy to act and think in a positive way – in fact, it’s sometimes the hardest thing to do – but it is always within the realm of possibility.

Your family, and especially your children, deserves the best effort that you can muster. You may not be perfect, but trying your best is all you can do. Your family will recognize your hard work and they’ll appreciate all that you do to be a better parent.

You are the most significant role model that your children have. They learn many of life’s lessons from you. Stay positive and try to change things for the better, and you’ll pass on that trait to your children, who will do the same with their own families.
