Can You Beat Stress Without Medications?

Stress is something we all have to deal with to some degree. Learning to reduce and manage our stress is important in order for it not to escalate and cause stress related illnesses.

Often, the first treatment prescribed for stress is some form of medication to reduce the symptoms of stress. Not always is medication effective, and many balk at the idea of the potential side effects.

Those not wanting to go the allopathic way with prescription medication will, with a little research, be able to find many natural and effective ways of not only reducing the stress, but also learning alternative ways of reacting to the situations causing the stress.

A very easy way to reduce stress, clear your head, lower anxiety, help lift depression, and lower frustration levels is by taking a long walk. The simple activity of walking not only exercises your body, but relieves your mind as well.

Music. Music effects us in many ways. Classical music has shown to lower blood pressure, upbeat music can get you smiling when you feel blue. Listening to music is a wonderful way to give your brain a much needed break.

Overloading your brain increases stress levels with many negative results. Music is one effective and pleasant way to slow down.

Find something you really enjoy doing and make sure you do it at least once per week.Doing something we enjoy puts us into a totally different mindset where our outlook on things will be quite different and a lot more positive. Having something fun to look forward to makes it easier to get through stressful days when life is too much.

Starting a fun craft project, playing tennis, having a girls night out, take dancing lessons…. or get a massage. Massages are a terrific way to melt away accumulated stress. So is Yoga. Stress is stores in our tissues and when those tissues are kneaded or stretched the stress simply flows away.

Many stressed persons have their emotions bottled up. Allowing emotions to flow is a very nice way to reduce stored stress. When you feel like crying go ahead and cry. Rent a sad movie and cry with it. Tears have the ability of lowering the stress hormone cortisol. It is a medical fact that crying lowers your stress level.

If you are driving and you feel frustrated, roll your windows up and scream. Screaming and cursing in a safe way can let go of “tons” of stress.Or, if you feel really angry, hit a punching bag.
