Four Different Mental States Binaural Beats Can Help You Achieve
To obtain different states of mind without much effort, you can utilize what are called binaural beats. Binaural beats allow you to “trick” your mind into tuning into them. Depending on the frequency you wish to be focused on, you can trick your mind into a varying number of states that will assist with concentration, weight loss, increase learning, lucid dreaming, sleep, and a multitude of other ones.
Over the last 150 years, scientists have discovered that different frequencies can be related to various states of mind. For an example, a frequency of 1 to 3 Hz (Hertz, or the number of changes per minute) may be associated with deeper sleep. Binaural beats allow you to listen to a certain frequency to allow you to achieve different states of mind. And today (versus 150 years ago), it’s very easy to change your brainwave frequencies with just a CD or MP3 player and a set of headphones.
To get your brain to tune into a specific frequency, different sounds can be administered to each ear. In the case of binaural beats (there are also other beats called isochronic and monaural beats, but we’ll use binaural as the example here), a tone is administered to in each ear. One tone may be 100 Hz, the other is played at 108 Hz. This creates a binaural “beat” with the same frequency as the difference of the two (8 Hz). The frequency of 8 Hz matches with the theta state of mind which is useful for for creating ideas.
The frequencies which the binaural beats can focus on are referred to as theta, beta, alpha and delta states. These four categories each target a different frequency and thus different states of mind. There is a chance you have heard of these states before, and these are commonly referenced when discussing binaural beats.
Starting in the 13 Hz to the 25 Hz range is the beta frequency range. In this range, your brain can focus on reducing and eliminating stress and anxiety, as well as keeping alert.
Next are the frequencies in the alpha range. These frequencies range from 8 Hz to 12 Hz. Positive thinking and the ability to improve your ability to learn can occur within this range. In addition, it also produces a state of light relaxation.
Theta frequencies occur between 4 Hz to 7 Hz. Within this range, a different set of benefits can be discovered. These benefits will help with deeper relaxation (which makes them great for meditating), increasing your memory, and bettering your focus.
The final category is called the delta range. These frequencies are primarily responsible for deeper sleep, an increase in immune functions, and lucid dreaming.
As you can clearly see, there are a great number of benefits that binaural beats have to offer… And this article doesn’t cover each one of them either. They require no practice at all — Just an open mind to get started.
